Hymn of the Day
#524 O Fount of Good, for All Your Love
This hymn by Philip Doddridge first appeared with five stanzas. It was drastically altered by Edward Osler. Doddridge (1702-1751) was born in London and was the youngest of 20 children, of whom only he and one sister survived infancy. He prepared for the ministry and became an Independent minister. In addition to publishing many sermons and theological works, he wrote about four hundred hymns, none of which appeared in print during his lifetime. Osler, also born in England (1789-1863), contributed 50 hymns and 15 metric psalms to a popular hymn collection known as the “Mitre Hymn Book.”

Close Communion              is the practice of our congregations and synod. If you are a visitor and would like to commune with us today we ask that you speak with the pastors before the service. If you have any questions about this teaching of God’s Word they will be happy to speak with you.

Sunday, September 19thZion Homecoming Sunday

Memorial     A gift has been received at Saint Jacobi in memory of Tillie Walth from Doug and Sadie Sackreiter. Thank you very much. Your thoughtfulness reminds us of Revelation 14:13, “Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord … their deeds will follow them.”

Zion Voters Met     Last Sunday the voters decided to have the church hold the Children’s Christmas Service on Sunday night, December 19th. … They also decided not to have a Saturday service on September 18th so everyone could be at the Homecoming on Sunday.

Zion Homecoming     Such is the service designation for two weeks from today, September 19th.   There will be time for favorite hymns at 8:15 AM; worship at 8:30; and pancakes and sausage cooked by the men for brunch. We have games and door prizes lined up for the brunch. Please take the letter from your mailbox. This is a good chance to get reacquainted after summer. And, bring a friend or neighbor.

Anniversary     Ascension Lutheran in Moorhead, MN will give thanks for Pastor Lloyd Schlomer’s 25 years in the ministry on September 26th. More information is on the bulletin board.

Recruiter    Pastor Nathan Scharf will visit Zion Lutheran School at 8:30 Wednesday morning to speak about our synod’s worker training system and Luther Preparatory School in particular. Anyone interested - and aren’t we all - is welcome to sit in. (Factoid: about 40% of our teachers and 65% of our pastors come from our two prep schools)

Merkel’s receipts     Zion Lutheran School is again saving Merkel’s receipts (dated 9/1/10 and following) and Box Tops for Education. Thank you for your contributions!
